Floor lamp
This rare tripod floor lamp was produced in Denmark during the 1940s by an unknown designer. It represents a transitional design between early functionalism and the organic modernism that would come to define Scandinavian design in the mid-20th century.
The lamp features a base composed of three brass arms that extend outward at an angle from a central hub. Each arm terminates in a vertically oriented mahogany cylinder that serves as a leg, providing both visual lightness and structural stability. The vertical stem is brass, exhibiting oxidation and surface patina consistent with its age. Incorporated into the lower shaft is a turned mahogany grip that facilitates height adjustment. The central stem telescopes vertically, allowing the lamp’s height to be varied from 130 cm to 167 cm.
A gently curved upper arm supports the original pleated conical lampshade made of semi-transparent textile in a neutral beige color. The fabric is lightly textured and appears original, diffusing light softly and creating a warm glow that emphasizes its woven texture and casts a subtle radial pattern.
The lamp is in good vintage condition, showing typical wear such as patina on the brass, light scuffs on the mahogany legs, and minor fraying at the edge of the shade. The height adjustment mechanism functions properly.
This piece exemplifies the Scandinavian design ethos of the immediate pre- and post-war period, combining elegant material contrasts, functional adjustability, and atmospheric lighting suitable for both residential and architectural settings.
Dimensions are 40 cm in width, 60 cm in depth, and height adjustable from 130 to 167 cm (15.7 x 23.6 inches, height 51.2 to 65.7 inches).
