Information

This rare two-arm floor lamp was produced in Sweden during the 1930s by an unknown designer. The lamp is constructed from nickel-plated metal and features a slender vertical shaft supporting two independently articulated arms, each ending in a conical lampshade. The design is symmetrical yet visually dynamic, with softly undulating curves in each arm creating an organic rhythm.

The nickel plating has aged to a matte silver tone, showing patina, darkening, and slight oxidation, especially around the base and joints, which is consistent with the lamp’s age. The conical shades are made from a light textile with a subtle weave texture, diffusing light softly to create warm ambient illumination. Each shade can be directed independently, making the lamp functional for reading or accent lighting.

Structurally, the lamp is minimal but purposeful, with knurled adjustment knobs at the central junction to reposition the arms. The circular base is weighted for stability and balanced visually against the vertical shaft. The design reflects early Scandinavian functionalism, emphasizing restraint, material honesty, and practical utility.

The lamp is in very good vintage condition, showing expected surface wear and patina. The shades have been recently replaced with ones matching the original style in scale and material.

Though the designer remains unknown, the lamp exemplifies the transitional Scandinavian design aesthetic of the interwar period, where industrial and machine-age influences were softened by craftsmanship and attention to human scale.

The dimensions are 90 cm wide, 20 cm deep, and 153 cm high (35.4 x 7.9 x 60.2 inches).
