Bedside tables
This rare pair of bedside or side tables was produced in Denmark during the 1930s, reflecting an early phase of Scandinavian modernism while still embracing traditional craftsmanship and elegant detailing. The tables showcase a transitional design language that blends simplicity and function with refined artisanal techniques.
Constructed from solid mahogany, a hardwood valued for its rich reddish-brown color and fine grain, the wood has developed a deep patina over time, enhancing the natural warmth and visual depth of the material. The design is defined by clean lines and slightly tapered legs, which contribute to a balanced and graceful silhouette. The frame incorporates cross-stretchers that add structural stability and durability.
Each table features a rectangular upper section with four drawers, each drawer equipped with integrated recessed handles shaped in a triangular form. The drawers are crafted using dovetail joints, a mark of quality craftsmanship that ensures longevity and structural integrity.
Although these tables date from the 1930s, their design anticipates many of the principles later associated with mid-century Scandinavian modernism, including an emphasis on simplicity, practicality, and the use of high-quality natural materials.
Both tables are preserved in good vintage condition, showing minor wear consistent with their age and use. The wood surfaces retain their original finish, allowing the natural beauty of the mahogany to remain prominent.
Each table measures approximately 60 cm in width, 39 cm in depth, and 67.5 cm in height, which is about 23.6 inches wide, 15.4 inches deep, and 26.6 inches high.
