Halvdan Pettersson bedside tables
This rare pair of side tables was designed by Halvdan Pettersson and produced by Tibro Möbelfabrik in Sweden. Dating from the mid-century period, the tables combine an elegant cylindrical form with an unusual mixture of upholstery, wood and brass.
Each table features a circular mahogany top above a drum-shaped body upholstered in cream-colored imitation leather. Two curved drawers are integrated almost seamlessly into the cylindrical form. Their fronts are outlined with rows of decorative metal studs and fitted with sculptural brass drop handles, giving the otherwise restrained design a distinctive ornamental character.
The tables stand on four slender, tapered beech legs terminating in brass sabots. Additional brass bands partially encircle the upper edge of each table, complementing the drawer hardware and creating a refined contrast with the warm mahogany and pale upholstery. The drawers reveal a light wood interior and follow the curvature of the body.
Their compact proportions make the pair particularly suitable as bedside tables or as occasional side tables alongside lounge seating. The combination of materials and the careful treatment of details are characteristic of Scandinavian furniture of the period, while the cylindrical construction gives the design an especially individual presence.
The pair remains in good vintage condition, with small signs of use and age to the surfaces and brass details.
