Floor lamp
This rare Swedish mid-century floor lamp was produced during the 1950s by an unknown manufacturer. The design is defined by its angular and minimal construction, executed entirely in steel with brass detailing, and finished in its original blue lacquer.
The lamp is supported by a lightweight, tripod-like base made from bent steel tubing, with two splayed rear legs and a single forward-reaching support. From this base, the stem rises diagonally in a sharp, clean line, curving forward at the top to support a conical lampshade. The shade is also constructed from lacquered steel and features a perforated pattern along its lower rim, allowing subtle light diffusion and adding to its mid-century aesthetic. When illuminated, the perforations create a soft, secondary glow, further enhancing the lamp’s visual appeal.
The structure of the lamp creates a dynamic and poised silhouette, with the brass swivel joint connecting the shade to the arm, allowing for angle adjustment. The deep matte blue color is original and consistent throughout the lamp, though it shows visible signs of wear, including small chips and patina, particularly around contact points—typical for a utilitarian object of this vintage.
This lamp reflects the Scandinavian mid-century lighting principles of functional simplicity combined with expressive geometry and restrained ornamentation. The use of painted steel and brass components is characteristic of Swedish lighting from the early 1950s, where material economy and formal innovation played a central role in both domestic and contract lighting design.
The dimensions of the lamp are 43 cm in width, 40 cm in depth, and 118 cm in height (approximately 16.9 inches in width, 15.7 inches in depth, and 46.5 inches in height). It remains a striking example of Scandinavian modern design, combining form and function in a dynamic, elegant piece.
