Hans Wegner dining chairs
Set of 12 dining chairs model CH-23 designed by Hans Wegner. Produced by Carl Hansen & Son in Denmark.
The set of 12 CH-23 dining chairs, designed by Hans J. Wegner and produced by Carl Hansen & Søn in Denmark during the 1950s, exemplifies the principles of Danish modern design. Crafted from solid oak and teak, the chairs feature Wegner’s signature organic aesthetic with precise joinery and a harmonious blend of materials. The frame is constructed from oak, providing durability and strength, while the teak backrest introduces a contrasting warm tone and distinctive wood grain. The backrest is adorned with elegant cruciform tenon joints, a hallmark of Wegner’s attention to functional detailing.
The handwoven paper cord seat offers a tactile, natural quality, carefully crafted using traditional weaving techniques to provide comfort and longevity. Condition shows signs of light wear consistent with age, with a rich patina on the wood and minor variations in the woven seat material.
