Tove & Edvard Kindt-Larsen easy chairs
This rare pair of easy chairs, model FD125, was designed by Tove & Edvard Kindt-Larsen and produced by France & Son in Denmark during the 1950s. The FD125 model is an iconic representation of mid-century Danish design, demonstrating the Kindt-Larsens’ mastery of form, proportion, and material in their collaborative work. These chairs elegantly balance sculptural structure with practical comfort, hallmarks of Scandinavian modernism.
The frames are crafted from solid teak, exhibiting the deep reddish-brown hue and expressive grain that characterize the species. The wood has been well maintained, showing minimal wear and retaining its natural luster. The design emphasizes lightness and open space, with slender elements and precise joinery contributing to a refined architectural profile.
One of the most distinctive features is the angled armrest, which tapers gently from front to back, integrating fluidly with the rear leg. This, along with the “V”-shaped support beneath the backrest, defines the chair’s strong geometric identity while also contributing to its structural integrity. These features reveal a thoughtful synthesis of aesthetic detailing and ergonomic consideration.
The chairs have been professionally reupholstered in Gabriel Savak plain wool fabric—a high-quality textile originally designed by Tove Kindt-Larsen herself. The off-white tone provides a soft and neutral visual contrast to the warmth of the teak, while the texture adds a tactile richness to the surface. The upholstery is taut and pristine, with clean lines that mirror the crisp geometry of the wooden frame.
The chairs are in excellent vintage condition. The teak has aged gracefully, and all joints remain tight and stable. The newly upholstered cushions are fresh and well-executed, preserving the original spirit of the design while ensuring contemporary usability.
Each chair measures 75 cm in width, 77 cm in depth, 76.5 cm in height, and has a seat height of 41 cm (29.5 x 30.3 x 30.1 inches; seat height 16.1 inches). These proportions make them suitable for lounge settings where visual impact and comfort are equally important.
Tove & Edvard Kindt-Larsen were among the leading figures in Danish design in the mid-20th century, known for their sensitivity to material and form. The FD125 is a rare and sought-after model within their portfolio, representing the precision and elegance that made their work enduringly influential. This pair is a superb example of their legacy—timeless, functional, and highly collectible.
