Poul Henningsen wall lamp
This rare wall lamp, model PH-1/1, was designed by Poul Henningsen and produced by Louis Poulsen in Denmark during the 1930s. It is a fine example of Henningsen’s pioneering approach to lighting design, characterized by his innovative three-shade system developed to reduce glare and distribute light evenly. The lamp’s compact scale and refined proportions make it an exceptional piece for both domestic and architectural interiors of the period.
The construction combines a gently curved brass arm with the original layered white opaline glass shades, which together create a balanced and functional form. The brass has developed a rich patina over time, adding depth and authenticity to the piece, while the shades have retained their soft, matte surface, diffusing the light with characteristic warmth. The flexible arm allows for directional adjustment, a practical feature that reflects Henningsen’s deep understanding of the interplay between light and space.
Produced by Louis Poulsen, one of Denmark’s most renowned lighting manufacturers, this model is part of a long tradition of collaborations between the company and Henningsen, whose work has been instrumental in defining modern Scandinavian lighting design. The PH-1/1 was conceived for smaller spaces such as hallways, reading corners, or above seating areas, yet its sculptural presence makes it equally suited to contemporary interiors.
The lamp remains in good vintage condition with small signs of use consistent with age and retains its original components.
