Biography

Mejlstrøm's work reflects the Scandinavian modernist approach to lighting design, combining straightforward forms with functional construction and carefully considered materials. His designs frequently incorporated brass and other metals, with restrained geometric forms characteristic of Scandinavian lighting of the period.

Through Mejlstrøm Belysning, he produced a range of wall, table and floor lamps. Among the designs associated with him is the model 99 wall lamp, distinguished by its geometric construction and use of brass. His lighting demonstrates an emphasis on material quality and practical function rather than decorative excess.

Although biographical information about Sven Mejlstrøm remains limited, his surviving designs provide an insight into Scandinavian lighting production during the 1960s. Today, examples of his work appear on the vintage market and are appreciated for their simple forms, warm materials and characteristic mid-century expression.
