Ib Kofod-Larsen easy chair

This very rare easy chair, model U56, also known as the “Elizabeth Chair” was designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen and produced by Christensen & Larsen in Denmark in 1956. It is a distinguished example of mid-century Scandinavian modern design, notable for its sculptural teak frame, organic lines, and meticulous craftsmanship. The chair’s association with Queen Elizabeth II, who acquired a pair during a visit to Denmark, has further cemented its status as a design icon.

The frame is made from solid teak, showcasing refined joinery and smoothly flowing curves that are signature traits of Kofod-Larsen’s work. The legs are slightly angled and elegantly tapered, supporting a wide, deep seat that combines stability with comfort. The organically shaped armrests extend seamlessly into the rear legs, creating a harmonious and sculptural silhouette.

Upholstered in its original fabric, a textured wool blend in a muted gray-green tone, the chair features a contoured backrest and seat cushion designed for ergonomic support.
