Ib Kofod-Larsen easy chair

Information

A rare easy chair model Sälen designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen in 1957 and produced by OPE in Sweden. The model is a refined example of Kofod-Larsen’s organic and sculptural approach to seating, where comfort and craftsmanship are integrated into a distinctive architectural form.

The frame is executed in solid teak, displaying a warm, reddish-brown tone with a finely grained surface. The construction is defined by its elegantly tapered legs and sharply profiled armrests, which extend in a dynamic, almost wing-like form. The joinery is precise and expressive, emphasizing both strength and lightness, while the open structure gives the chair a visually balanced and airy presence.

The seat and backrest are upholstered in original leather in a rich cognac tone. The leather has developed a pronounced patina over time, with natural creasing, surface wear, and tonal variation that enhance the character of the piece. The backrest is shaped as a continuous, slightly curved shell that supports the body, while the loose seat cushion adds an additional layer of comfort and softness.

The chair measures approximately 80 cm in width, 78 cm in depth, and 75 cm in height, with a seat height of 40 cm (31.5 x 30.7 x 29.5 inches, seat height 15.7 inches). It remains in good vintage condition with visible signs of use consistent with age, including wear to the leather and a minor damage to the upper backrest.
