Niels O. Møller armchairs
This very rare set of ten armchairs, model 62, was designed in 1962 by Niels Otto Møller and produced by J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1960s. The chairs are constructed from solid rosewood, exhibiting a deep, well-defined grain pattern, and retain their original black leather upholstery. The sculptural frame, with its fluid, organic lines, exemplifies Møller’s mastery in woodworking and attention to ergonomic comfort.
Niels Otto Møller was a Danish furniture designer renowned for his refined craftsmanship and seamless joinery techniques. His work often featured hand-carved details, emphasizing the natural beauty of wood while maintaining structural integrity. J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik, founded by Møller himself, became known for its dedication to high-quality materials and artisanal production methods. Model 62 is characterized by its three horizontal ladder-back slats, gracefully curved to provide lumbar support, and its subtly tapered legs. The armrests extend in a continuous flow from the backrest, creating a lightweight yet durable construction. The seat is upholstered in smooth black leather, offering a contrast to the warm rosewood tones and ensuring both visual and tactile elegance.
The dimensions of each chair are 54.5 cm in width, 51 cm in depth, and 80.5 cm in height (21.5 x 20.1 x 31.7 inches), with a seat height of 45 cm (17.7 inches). The chairs remain in excellent vintage condition, with minor wear on the leather and a well-preserved patina on the wooden frames. This set represents an exceptional example of Danish mid-century craftsmanship, combining sculptural aesthetics with functional comfort.
