Floor lamp
This height-adjustable floor lamp, produced in Sweden in the 1960s, combines brass, blue lacquered metal, and three newly made conical fabric shades. The lamp is designed with a tripod base formed by slender rods that meet in a circular ring, lending the piece a light and stable stance. The central brass stem can be adjusted in height with a small lever, allowing the shades to be positioned higher or lower as needed. The three shades are evenly spaced, creating a balanced arrangement that provides diffuse, warm ambient light.
The brass components display a natural patina that enhances the character of the lamp, while the blue lacquered base retains its original finish with minor signs of wear. The coiled black detail on the stem adds a tactile and visual accent, providing both grip and a subtle contrast to the brass and blue surfaces. The new shades have been made to match the original design, ensuring that the lamp retains its authentic appearance while being ready for use.
This piece reflects the Scandinavian approach to functional yet refined lighting design of the mid-century period, characterized by clean lines, balanced proportions, and a focus on creating a warm atmosphere. Its height-adjustable function makes it versatile for both reading and general illumination.
