Art Deco table lamp
This rare Art Deco table lamp dates from the 1930s and is attributed to an unknown designer. It exemplifies the period’s distinctive curvilinear and sculptural approach, combining materials such as glass and pewter to create a refined and dynamic form. The lamp’s design reflects the transitional phase between early modernism and the decorative exuberance characteristic of Art Deco.
The base is crafted from darkened metal, providing a solid and understated foundation for the more intricate upper structure. Rising from this base is a pewter frame formed into an interwoven, organically curved composition. This fluid, continuous movement in the metalwork is emblematic of Art Deco’s emphasis on elegant, rhythmic lines and sophistication. The frame supports a dome-shaped glass shade, secured with a metal rim. The shade itself is composed of white opaline glass, designed to diffuse light evenly and emit a soft, ambient glow.
The lamp is preserved in good vintage condition, showing a natural patina on the pewter elements consistent with its age. The opaline glass shade remains intact, exhibiting only minor surface wear that does not affect its overall appearance or function.
The dimensions of the lamp are 33.5 cm wide, 37 cm deep, and 41.5 cm high (13.2 x 14.6 x 16.3 inches), giving it a balanced presence suitable for various interior settings that appreciate early 20th-century design.
