Ceiling lamp
This rare ceiling lamp, likely of Italian origin and produced around the 1950s, features a distinctive mid-century design characterized by sculptural glass and brass elements. The fixture comprises three upward-facing shades made of thick, semi-transparent glass with a subtle champagne tint. These shades are evenly arranged around a central bowl-shaped diffuser, which is partially frosted on the inside to soften downward light and create a layered lighting effect.
The glass components display surface irregularities and small inclusions typical of handblown glasswork from the period, suggesting artisanal craftsmanship. The structural framework consists of bent brass tubing, showing natural patination and oxidation consistent with age. A clear glass orb connects the body of the lamp to the canopy, which is also crafted in champagne-tinted glass and suspended by a traditional rope-covered rod.
One of the glass shades bears a hairline crack, and all elements exhibit age-appropriate wear including minor surface scratches on the glass and light oxidation on the brass. The overall aesthetic and materials align with Italian mid-century lighting traditions, particularly those associated with skilled Murano workshops, although the exact designer remains unidentified.
The lamp measures 75 cm in diameter and 75 cm in height (approximately 29.5 by 29.5 inches), presenting a sculptural and elegant centerpiece typical of Italian lighting design from this era.
