Ceiling lamps
This mid-century ceiling lamp was produced by Glashütte Limburg in Germany during the 1950s. Although the designer is unknown, the lamp exemplifies the minimal conical form and strong geometric clarity characteristic of mid-century German and Scandinavian lighting design.
The fixture features a polished brass outer shade shaped as a sharply defined cone, tapering to a narrow top and flaring widely at the base. The brass surface is reflective with a natural patina and shows small marks consistent with age and use. The underside of the cone is coated in white lacquer to optimize downward light reflection and minimize glare.
Beneath the brass shade, a recessed inner diffuser made of white opal glass forms a shallow inverted cone, softening and evenly dispersing the light to create a warm, ambient glow. The lamp is suspended from a straight cream-colored rod that leads into a matching white conical ceiling cup.
The lamp’s formal simplicity, combined use of brass and glass, and integration of indirect light diffusion firmly place it within the mid-century modern tradition, blending functionalism with quality materials.
It remains in good vintage condition, showing wear on the brass and minor age-related marks on the metal components but no structural damage. The lamp measures 36 cm in diameter and 38 cm in height, with a total drop including the ceiling mount of approximately 61 cm (about 14.2 inches wide, 15 inches high, and 24 inches total drop).
