Ceiling lamp
This rare flush mount ceiling lamp was produced in Sweden during the 1930s. The design is striking and sculptural, featuring a circular iron framework with gilded zodiac symbols and radiating sun motifs at the center. The structure frames an opaque diffuser, which softens the light and creates a warm atmospheric glow when illuminated. The decorative elements are executed in gold-painted iron, providing a striking contrast against the black framework and white background.
The lamp reflects the decorative tendencies of the interwar period, where influences from Art Deco and early modernist design merged with traditional craftsmanship. The zodiac motifs suggest both a symbolic and decorative function, making the piece more than a utilitarian light source—it also acts as a decorative element with architectural presence. Its form, with radial structure and strong symbolic imagery, evokes influences from both public and domestic interior design of the time.
The fixture is crafted from iron, a material widely used in the 1930s for lighting due to its durability and suitability for ornamental detailing. The gilded highlights provide warmth and contrast, underlining the craftsmanship. The diffuser spreads the light evenly and gives the lamp its distinctive halo-like effect when lit.
This lamp is in good condition with visible signs of usage and patina consistent with its age. The iron frame shows natural wear, and the gilded details have developed a soft aged surface, adding to its authenticity and historical character.
