Information

This rare floor lamp was designed by Svend Aage Holm Sørensen and produced by Holm Sørensen & Co in Denmark during the 1950s. It represents a refined example of Scandinavian mid-century lighting design, where functional construction is combined with sculptural clarity and carefully balanced proportions.

The lamp is constructed in black lacquered metal and brass. It features a slender vertical stem rising from a conical base, supporting an arched, flexible brass arm that allows directional adjustment of the light. The shade is conical in form, finished in black lacquered metal with evenly spaced vertical perforations along the lower edge. These perforations create a controlled light pattern when illuminated, adding both functional glare reduction and a subtle decorative effect. The brass elements show a warm tone that contrasts with the darker lacquered surfaces.

Svend Aage Holm Sørensen was known for his experimental yet disciplined approach to lighting design, often working with perforated shades, angled forms, and articulated arms. His work bridges industrial production and expressive form, making his designs highly characteristic of Danish modernism in the post-war period. Holm Sørensen & Co was an important Danish lighting manufacturer, closely associated with the designer’s output and responsible for producing many of his most recognized models during the 1950s and 1960s.

The lamp is in excellent vintage condition, with minor signs of use consistent with age. The brass shows a natural patina, and the lacquered surfaces display light wear, contributing to the authenticity of the piece without affecting its structural integrity or visual clarity. All elements appear well preserved and stable.

Stylistically, the lamp belongs firmly within the Scandinavian mid-century tradition, emphasizing functionality, restrained ornamentation, and material honesty. Its adjustable form and focused light output suggest use as a reading or accent lamp, while its sculptural silhouette allows it to function equally as a standalone interior object.

Dimensions are approximately 40 cm wide, 13 cm deep, and 120 cm high, corresponding to about 15.7 inches in width, 5.1 inches in depth, and 47.2 inches in height.
