Carl Fagerlund table lamp

This table lamp, model RD1834, was designed by Carl Fagerlund and produced by Orrefors in Sweden during the 1960s. The lamp is executed in clear pressed glass and brushed steel, with a pleated white fabric lampshade. The base of the lamp consists of a vertically stacked configuration of five heavy, circular glass elements. These rings are slightly concave in profile and precisely machined with concentric detailing, producing a lens-like optical effect that subtly refracts and reflects ambient and emitted light.

The central rod and structural fittings are in brushed steel, contributing to the understated yet refined aesthetic typical of Scandinavian mid-century lighting design. The shade is made from white fabric with vertical pleats and a slightly tapered cylindrical form. When illuminated, the light diffuses gently through the pleated fabric and radiates through the transparent glass base, highlighting the layered geometry and internal structure.

Carl Fagerlund (1915–2011) was a Swedish designer and glass artist associated with Orrefors, where he was active from the 1940s through the 1970s. Fagerlund was known for combining functional lighting solutions with decorative artistry, particularly through the medium of glass. His works are notable for their substantial weight, optical clarity, and architectural symmetry. Orrefors, one of Sweden’s most prestigious glassworks, was renowned for its high-quality crystal and collaborations with prominent designers throughout the 20th century.

The lamp is in very good vintage condition. The glass is clean and clear with no visible chips or cracks. The steel elements show only minor surface wear consistent with age. The shade is also well preserved, with no staining or deformation. The original label identifying both Orrefors and Fagerlund is intact beneath the socket, confirming provenance.

The dimensions are 34 cm in diameter and 58 cm in height, corresponding to approximately 13.4 inches in diameter and 22.8 inches in height.
