Information

This very rare ceiling lamp, model C191, was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1950s. The chandelier is an exemplary piece of Scandinavian modern lighting design, combining exceptional materials with an emphasis on diffused illumination. It features a circular brass frame that supports eight evenly spaced cylindrical glass shades, each mounted on individual brass holders. Over time, the brass has developed a warm patina, which enhances the lamp’s character and contributes to its vintage appeal. The glass shades have a delicate, textured surface with subtle bubbles that help to soften and disperse the light, creating a warm, ambient glow.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was a highly regarded Swedish interior and industrial designer, renowned for his innovative lighting solutions. Trained initially as a cabinetmaker, Jakobsson later studied architecture and worked alongside prominent Scandinavian designers such as Carl Malmsten and Gunnar Asplund. In 1951, he founded his own company, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB, in Markaryd, Sweden, where he began experimenting with light in new ways. His designs frequently incorporated materials like brass, copper, and wood veneer, and he became especially known for creating lamps that produced soft, indirect light while still maintaining a bold architectural presence. Jakobsson’s work was highly respected during the mid-20th century and continues to be sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts.

The lamp remains in good vintage condition, with visible signs of age and patina on the brass, consistent with its period and use. The glass shades are intact, with no cracks, and retain their original textured surface, further adding to the authenticity and charm of the piece.

The diameter of the lamp is 118 cm.
