Information

This rare floor lamp, produced by Itsu in Finland and attributed to an unknown designer, exemplifies the refined elegance and functional sophistication characteristic of Scandinavian mid-century lighting. With its distinctive double-stem configuration and minimalist profile, the lamp merges architectural clarity with tactile materials, presenting a harmonious balance between industrial precision and organic detail.

The frame is composed of polished brass, which has developed a soft, warm patina over time. This aging process enhances the visual depth of the metal and emphasizes its vintage authenticity. The dual stems are subtly curved and connected at their midpoint by a U-shaped brass junction wrapped in natural tan leather. The leather detailing is finely stitched and thoughtfully placed, offering both a visual counterpoint and a tactile element that softens the sleekness of the metallic structure.

Each of the two arms supports a conical white shade, newly added in accordance with the original design intent. These shades are angled to optimize directional lighting and sit atop flexible gooseneck mounts, allowing precise adjustment for reading or ambient illumination. The geometric purity of the cones complements the curving lines of the brass arms, creating a visual dialogue between form and function.

The adjustable components and double-shade format make this floor lamp highly versatile, suitable for both task-oriented use and broader ambient lighting. It reflects the Scandinavian design ethos of the 1950s and 1960s—where restraint, usability, and material integrity were prioritized.

Itsu, an influential Finnish lighting manufacturer, was known for producing finely crafted fixtures with clean lines, subtle innovation, and excellent build quality. Although the designer of this particular model remains unidentified, the lamp clearly aligns with the design language practiced by contemporaries such as Paavo Tynell and Tapio Wirkkala.

In excellent vintage condition, the lamp retains its structural and aesthetic integrity. The brass exhibits light wear consistent with age, while the newly added shades and preserved leather grips ensure that the piece remains fully functional and visually compelling. As a product of post-war Finnish design, it offers both rarity and timeless appeal, bridging utilitarian purpose with sculptural elegance.
