Floor lamp

This rare floor lamp was produced in Finland during the 1950s and is attributed to an unknown designer. It is a compelling example of mid-century Scandinavian lighting that merges organic materials with a sculptural, architectural silhouette. The lamp stands out due to its trio of cylindrical wooden shades, each elevated on slender brass rods that converge into a shared geometric base structure.

The three shades are composed of thin wooden slats arranged vertically and bound by horizontal ribs, forming open cylinder forms. These shades are natural in tone and allow light to pass through the gaps between slats, creating a striking play of shadow and filtered light when illuminated. This effect is particularly pronounced in darker settings, where the lamp casts patterned light reminiscent of lanterns or woven baskets, a common motif in Finnish lighting design of the period.

The stems supporting the shades are made of brass with a warm, aged patina and show surface oxidation consistent with age. The three rods are joined at mid-height with a stabilizing ring and anchored in a solid, compact brass base formed from bent rod legs extending from a central block. The base structure is minimal yet sturdy, and its industrial expression contrasts with the warmth and tactility of the wooden shades.

Condition is good vintage, with small signs of usage and natural patination on the brass components. The wood elements are well preserved, showing uniform coloration and structural integrity without warping or significant damage.

Although unsigned, the design is stylistically linked to Finnish lighting from the 1950s, where the use of wood as a light-filtering material and a tactile contrast to metal was a recurring theme. This piece reflects the regional emphasis on nature, craftsmanship, and the atmospheric qualities of light.
