Floor lamp
This rare floor lamp, produced in Denmark during the 1950s, exemplifies mid-century Scandinavian modern lighting design. The lamp’s structure is composed of brass, featuring a slender, elongated stem accented by a black lacquered section near its midpoint. Its circular base is weighted to ensure stability. The upper part is distinguished by an opaline glass diffuser that emits a soft, ambient light, topped by a perforated black-lacquered metal shade. The perforations serve both a functional and decorative purpose, allowing additional light to diffuse and creating a subtle pattern when the lamp is illuminated.
The design balances refined materials with a clean geometric form. The flared brass detailing beneath the glass diffuser introduces an elegant Art Deco-inspired element, while the combination of black lacquer, brass, and opaline glass illustrates the Scandinavian modernist ethos of blending functionality with aesthetic appeal.
Mid-century Danish lighting is widely recognized for its clean lines, superior craftsmanship, and thoughtful material interplay, qualities clearly evident in this lamp. The piece is in very good vintage condition, showing minor signs of age and a gentle patina on the brass surfaces, consistent with its period.
The lamp measures 43 cm in diameter and stands 162 cm tall (16.9 by 63.8 inches).
