Information

This pair of floor lamps, model G-154, was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden during the 1960s. Crafted entirely from polished brass, these lamps exemplify Jakobsson’s mid-century aesthetic of refined simplicity combined with technical sophistication.

Each lamp features a slender vertical stem that extends into a right-angled arm supporting an adjustable cylindrical shade. The shades are dual-tiered and perforated at the top for ventilation, balancing visual appeal with practical light diffusion. An integrated pivot mechanism at the joint allows precise adjustment of the shade’s direction, making the lamps versatile for tasks such as reading or accent lighting. The on/off switch is discreetly positioned near the base of the shade, maintaining the lamps’ clean and streamlined profile.

The brass surfaces have aged gracefully, retaining a warm, lustrous patina consistent with vintage character. The circular bases are weighted for stability and lined with felt pads to protect flooring. Both lamps are in very good vintage condition, showing only light wear consistent with age.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was a celebrated Swedish interior architect and lighting designer known for his mastery of indirect lighting and sculptural luminaires. Trained initially as a carpenter and having worked with notable designers such as Carl Malmsten and Werner West, he founded his own company in 1951. Jakobsson’s designs often blend organic forms with functional elegance, frequently utilizing materials like wood and brass.

Model G-154 reflects Jakobsson’s precise engineering and aesthetic sensitivity, combining form and function in a way that remains highly regarded. The lamps were produced during a prolific period for his company, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB, which became synonymous with high-quality Swedish lighting design in the mid-20th century.

Each lamp measures 28 cm in width, 17 cm in depth, and 120 cm in height, equivalent to approximately 11 inches wide, 6.7 inches deep, and 47.2 inches tall.
