Information

This rare floor lamp, model G-50, was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by his own firm, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB, in Markaryd, Sweden during the 1950s. A quintessential example of Scandinavian mid-century lighting, the lamp combines elegant minimalism with layered light diffusion, reflecting Jakobsson’s characteristic approach to atmosphere and material tactility.

The lamp features a slim, upright brass stem that rises from a gently flared conical brass base, finished in a warm golden tone with a matte patina. At the top, the socket assembly is housed in a cylindrical brass casing that supports both an inner opaline glass diffuser and the original pleated fabric lampshade. The shade is rendered in a warm beige tone and is finely pleated to enhance its volume and diffuse the light softly when the lamp is lit.

The opaline glass cylinder inside the shade is designed to conceal the bulb while further softening the light, creating a warm ambient glow that avoids direct glare. When illuminated, the pleated shade filters the light to cast a gentle and evenly distributed atmosphere typical of Jakobsson’s lighting philosophy.

Dimensions are 44 centimeters in diameter (17.3 inches) and 158 centimeters in height (62.2 inches). The lamp is in very good vintage condition, with minor signs of wear to the brass consistent with age, including light patina and superficial markings. The fabric shade is well-preserved and structurally sound.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson was a prolific Swedish designer best known for his poetic and understated lighting designs. His work is especially noted for its sensitivity to light quality and its use of natural materials. At his company in Markaryd, Jakobsson designed and manufactured a wide array of lighting fixtures that became synonymous with the Scandinavian modern aesthetic.
