Round mirror
This is a round wall mirror, model number 103, produced by Glasmäster in Markaryd, Sweden during the 1950s. Crafted in teak with brass and leather components, this mirror is a larger companion to the earlier model 102, offering increased presence while maintaining the same restrained elegance characteristic of mid-century Scandinavian design. The mirror is enclosed within a finely formed teak frame, shaped with a uniform depth and subtle rounding to enhance its tactile and visual appeal. The wood is a medium amber tone with visible grain, warm in hue and aged to a soft matte finish.
Suspended by a natural leather strap looped through a brass ring, the mirror retains its original hanging mechanism. The leather, dyed in a light tan tone, shows signs of use and light creasing but remains structurally intact. The brass ring at the top is patinated, with a slightly dulled surface indicative of natural oxidation, giving the piece a vintage authenticity.
The mirror measures 40 cm in diameter (15.7 inches), with an overall height of 60 cm (23.6 inches) including the strap, and a depth of 4 cm (1.6 inches). The construction is shallow and lightweight, suitable for a variety of interior settings, such as entryways, bedrooms, or compact living areas.
The original manufacturer’s label remains affixed to the back, listing Glasmäster of Markaryd and the model number and size. Glasmäster was a small Swedish maker specializing in mirrored glass products, and this model exemplifies their work in pairing utility with simple but high-quality material treatment.
The mirror is in good vintage condition, with only minor signs of wear, such as slight surface abrasions to the leather and small age marks on the teak frame. The mirror glass is clean and securely seated. This object reflects a distinct moment in Scandinavian design history, when modest household items were elevated through material honesty and thoughtful detailing.
