Information

This is a rare side table or bureau designed by Alf Svensson and Yngvar Sandström, produced by Fröseke AB in Sweden during the 1960s. The design features a rectilinear corpus constructed in richly grained rosewood, resting on a minimalist frame of square-profiled solid brass legs. The combination of refined natural materials with a clean-lined architectural form illustrates the mid-century Scandinavian approach to functional elegance and material expressiveness.

The table includes two front-facing drawers, each with original brass pull handles that subtly echo the structure’s overall linear aesthetic. The rosewood top displays a striking bookmatched grain pattern, with deep reddish-brown hues and dark veining that vary organically across the surface. The brass elements exhibit a warm, slightly aged tone consistent with vintage patination, contrasting effectively with the saturated depth of the wood.

Alf Svensson was a prominent Swedish designer known for his versatile furniture and lighting designs, active primarily from the 1950s through the 1970s. Yngvar Sandström, often working in collaboration with Svensson, contributed to numerous iconic Scandinavian pieces characterized by a sophisticated simplicity and well-resolved proportions. Together, they produced furniture that was both modern in expression and rooted in fine traditional craftsmanship.

Fröseke AB, the Swedish manufacturer, was a well-regarded producer active in the mid-20th century, particularly known for its work in wood and for supporting forward-looking Swedish design talents. This piece exemplifies the firm’s dedication to quality materials and technical precision, with attention to construction and finish evident in the joinery and drawer action.

The item is in good vintage condition with small signs of use, consistent with careful restoration. The finish has been refreshed while preserving the original material integrity, and the drawers function smoothly.
