Information

This is a rare large candlestick designed by Anders Pehrson and produced by Ateljé Lyktan in Sweden during the 1950s. The piece represents the early phase of Pehrson’s work with Ateljé Lyktan, before he became its owner and artistic director in the 1960s. It shows his affinity for clean, architectural compositions combined with a playful sense of balance and proportion that would later become characteristic of his lighting designs.

The candlestick is constructed from black lacquered metal, with brass candle holders and clear glass chimneys that create a striking contrast between warm metallic tones and the cool black frame. The central vertical stem branches out symmetrically, holding eight arms at different heights, forming a sculptural tree-like arrangement. The circular brass holders catch and reflect light, and the glass chimneys add a functional as well as decorative element by shielding the flame while enhancing its glow.

The condition is good with visible signs of usage and patina consistent with age. The lacquer shows minor wear, and the brass components have developed a soft, natural tone over time, adding character and depth.

Anders Pehrson (1912–1982) was a Swedish industrial designer who had a significant influence on Scandinavian lighting design. As head of Ateljé Lyktan from 1964, he developed many iconic lighting series, combining industrial production with refined, modern aesthetics. This candlestick is an example of the company’s mid-century output, bridging the gap between decorative object and functional design.
