Information

This rare pair of Sirocco easy chairs was designed by Arne Norell in 1964 and produced by Arne Norell AB in Aneby, Sweden. One of Norell’s most recognizable designs, the Sirocco combines the informal construction of the traditional safari chair with refined Scandinavian craftsmanship.

The chairs feature exposed rosewood frames constructed from rounded posts and stretchers, with the structural joints and wooden pegs deliberately left visible as part of the design. Black leather forms the suspended seat, backrest and broad armrests, creating a striking contrast with the richly figured rosewood.

The backrests are attached to the uprights with leather collars, while the armrests are secured with stitched leather fittings and metal hardware. Loose, button-tufted leather cushions rest on the suspended seats. This combination of tensioned leather and an open wooden framework gives the chairs their characteristic relaxed silhouette and emphasizes the functional nature of the construction.

Both chairs retain their original black leather, which has developed an attractive patina with visible variations and traces of use. Both chairs retains the manufacturer’s label reading “NORELL, Made in Sweden”

Designed during the height of Scandinavian modernism, the Sirocco reflects Norell’s interest in comfort, traditional leatherwork and clearly expressed construction. The low proportions and generous seat make the design particularly well suited as a lounge or fireside chair.

The pair remains in good vintage condition, with small signs of use and age consistent with their original materials.
