Arne Norell side tables
This pair of side tables was designed by Arne Norell and produced by Arne Norell AB in Aneby, Sweden. The design demonstrates Norell’s ability to combine functional modernism with rich material expression, a quality that distinguished much of his work during the mid-20th century.
The tables feature rectangular tops in rosewood, showcasing the characteristic warm brown tones and distinctive grain patterns of the species. The surfaces are supported by cylindrical legs in black lacquered wood, which are connected by side stretchers that add stability and underline the geometric clarity of the form. The combination of rosewood and black lacquer creates a strong visual contrast, highlighting the balance between natural textures and refined surfaces.
Condition is excellent, with the rosewood tops retaining their depth of color and surface quality, and the lacquered legs maintaining their finish with only minimal signs of use. The clean lines and material juxtaposition are indicative of the Scandinavian modern aesthetic, where craftsmanship, proportion, and functionality are carefully balanced.
