Information

The sideboard model 29A, designed by Arne Vodder and produced by Sibast Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1950s, is an early and rare example of Danish mid-century modern furniture. Crafted primarily from teak, a tropical hardwood renowned for its durability and warm, golden tones, the piece features steel accents that provide subtle contrast and highlight the refined details of the design. The sideboard presents a long, low profile that emphasizes horizontal lines and balanced composition.

The front is divided into three functional sections. On the left, two sliding teak doors conceal adjustable shelving, allowing for versatile storage configurations. The central portion contains a stack of seven drawers, each featuring concave sculpted handles that serve both a decorative and practical purpose by facilitating easy access. The right section includes a hinged drop-down compartment, designed for specialized storage such as barware or media equipment. The slightly recessed legs create a floating effect, while metal caps on the feet add a refined industrial touch that complements the natural wood grain.

Arne Vodder was a prominent figure in Danish modernism, celebrated for his elegant and understated designs that often integrated organic shapes and asymmetrical compositions. His work skillfully combined aesthetics with utility, often using mixed materials to enrich the visual language of his furniture. Vodder’s designs were widely recognized internationally and found in both residential interiors and executive office environments.

Sibast Møbelfabrik was a respected manufacturer during the mid-20th century, noted for their meticulous craftsmanship and dedication to quality materials. Their partnership with Vodder produced some of the most desirable pieces of Scandinavian furniture, exemplifying the seamless fusion of form and function.

This sideboard embodies the principles of mid-century Scandinavian design, emphasizing simplicity, natural materials, and harmonious structural detail. The dimensions are 250 centimeters (98.4 inches) in width, 47 centimeters (18.5 inches) in depth, and 80 centimeters (31.5 inches) in height, offering generous storage capacity while maintaining an elegant and balanced presence.
