Arthur Andersson floor vase
This rare floor vase was designed by Arthur Andersson and produced by Wallåkra in Sweden during the 1950s. Crafted from stoneware, it features a dark, textured glaze that lends the piece a rich depth with subtle surface variations. The vase has an elegant teardrop shape, tapering smoothly into a narrow neck with a small opening at the top. Around the upper section, a band of incised geometric decoration reveals the raw clay beneath the glaze, creating a striking contrast.
The glaze application displays a balanced interplay between smooth and rough textures, characteristic of Wallåkra’s traditional ceramic techniques. The underside bears the Wallåkra stamp alongside a handwritten attribution to Arthur Andersson, a notable Swedish ceramicist active during the mid-20th century.
Wallåkra, established in the late 19th century, is renowned for producing high-quality stoneware using local clays and artisanal firing methods. Andersson’s contribution to Wallåkra showcases Scandinavian modernism’s emphasis on organic form and skilled craftsmanship.
