Barbro Nilsson pillow

This rare pillow, titled “Nejlikan röd” was designed by Barbro Nilsson and produced by Märta Måås-Fjetterström AB in Sweden in 1950. The design features a complex geometric pattern woven in shades of red, orange, and beige, centered around a stylized floral motif. The symmetrical composition creates a striking visual effect, while the rich and saturated colors maintain the warm, earthy tones typical of Scandinavian textile traditions.

The pillow is handwoven, reflecting the artisanal craftsmanship for which Märta Måås-Fjetterström AB is renowned. The workshop, established in the early 20th century, is known for producing high-quality textiles, often incorporating modernist aesthetics into traditional Swedish weaving techniques. Barbro Nilsson, who took over the workshop after Märta Måås-Fjetterström’s passing in 1941, was a master weaver and designer. Her work is celebrated for balancing Swedish weaving traditions with modernist sensibilities, and her designs, including this pillow, remain highly sought after.

The intricate pattern and tight weave demonstrate the high level of craftsmanship involved in its production. The pillow retains its original structure and vibrant colors, with minor signs of age-related wear that add to its authenticity and charm.
