Bergboms floor lamp

This rare floor lamp, model G-31, was produced by Bergboms in Sweden during the 1950s. The design is a fine example of Scandinavian mid-century lighting, combining simplicity of form with a tactile interplay of materials. The piece is marked with the model designation and manufacturer’s stamp on the underside of the brass base, confirming its authenticity.

The lamp features a slender vertical composition, with a central shaft partly clad in solid teak, displaying a warm reddish-brown tone and fine linear grain. The teak segments are joined by polished brass collars, which provide both structural reinforcement and a visual rhythm to the upright. The upper and lower sections of the stem are brass, aged to a mellow golden patina, complementing the natural warmth of the wood. The base consists of three flat brass legs arranged in a tripod configuration, offering stability while keeping the profile light and unobtrusive.

Originally designed to be paired with a pleated lampshade, this example is offered without a shade, allowing for flexibility in display and adaptation to different interiors. The photographed shade demonstrates the intended aesthetic—a soft diffusion of light with a warm tonal glow—but is not included in the sale. The original proportions accommodate a wide or medium-diameter shade, with the socket positioned to provide an even spread of illumination.

Bergboms, active from the mid-20th century until the 1970s, was known for its collaborations with leading Swedish designers, producing lighting that merged high-quality materials with restrained modern forms. Model G-31 embodies this ethos, showing careful balance between functional engineering and understated elegance.

The lamp is in good vintage condition, with light surface wear, minor scratches, and patination consistent with age and use. The teak has been well preserved, showing an even finish without significant discoloration, while the brass retains its aged character.
