Information

A rare floor lamp designed by Hans Bergström and produced by ASEA in Sweden during the 1940s, exemplifying the refined balance between functionalism and decorative warmth that characterizes Scandinavian lighting of the period. The composition features three elegantly curved brass arms rising from a slender central stem, each supporting a tapered pleated shade. The organic, almost calligraphic curvature of the arms creates a sculptural silhouette, while maintaining a light and airy presence.

The structure is executed in brass with a warm, naturally aged patina, paired with a distinctive shaft wrapped in dark brown leather. The leather shows visible wear and traces of age, contributing to the lamp’s authentic character and emphasizing its vintage provenance. The circular brass base is solid and well-proportioned, with a softly worn surface that complements the overall patinated finish.

The lamp is fitted with newly made shades in a light fabric, designed in keeping with the original style. Their pleated form diffuses the light evenly, producing a soft, warm glow that enhances the intimate atmosphere typical of mid-century interiors. When illuminated, the lamp casts a gentle, ambient light with subtle vertical rhythms created by the pleating, reinforcing its decorative appeal.

This example remains in good vintage condition with signs of usage and age-related patina throughout the brass and leather elements. These traces are consistent with its period and add to its authenticity without detracting from functionality or stability.

The shades measure 18 cm in diameter and 27.5 cm in height (approximately 7.1 inches in diameter and 10.8 inches high). The overall height of the lamp is 163.5 cm (approximately 64.4 inches). A similar lamp is also available, making this a rare opportunity to acquire a matched pair of an uncommon and highly collectible model.
