Bertil Brisborg table lamp
This table lamp, model 33119, was designed by Bertil Brisborg and produced by Nordiska Kompaniet (NK) in Sweden during the 1950s. It features a conical lampshade finished in red lacquered metal, mounted on a slender brass stem rising from a circular base. The lampshade is adjustable, allowing for directional lighting, which makes the lamp suitable for reading or task lighting.
Bertil Brisborg was a Swedish designer and architect recognized for his contributions to functional Scandinavian lighting design. His work, often produced by Nordiska Kompaniet, reflects mid-century modern aesthetics with an emphasis on clean lines and practical elegance. Nordiska Kompaniet itself was a prominent manufacturer of high-quality Swedish furniture and lighting, known for meticulous craftsmanship and design integrity.
The lamp exemplifies mid-century Scandinavian principles through its minimalist yet functional design. The combination of the warm brass stem and the vivid red lacquered shade creates a visually appealing contrast. The adjustable joint enhances its practicality. The original lacquer finish shows a softly aged patina, adding to the vintage character of the piece.
The lamp is preserved in good vintage condition, with visible signs of use including wear on the lacquer and a slightly bent stem. Its dimensions are 12 cm in width, 32 cm in depth, and 55 cm in height (4.7 x 12.6 x 21.7 inches).
