This table lamp, model 2043, was designed by Bertil Brisborg and produced by Nordiska Kompaniet (NK) in Sweden during the mid-20th century. The lamp exemplifies a restrained yet luxurious modernism, employing high-quality materials and precise construction. It features a cylindrical velvet lampshade in a deep navy blue tone, paired with a flared top diffuser made from opal white plexiglass that distributes light evenly when illuminated.

The structure comprises a polished brass base and fittings, with the central shaft clad in natural brown leather that has developed a warm patina. The brass elements are turned and fitted with precision, showing signs of age in the form of gentle surface oxidation and wear, which is consistent with the piece’s age and its very good vintage condition. The lamp is equipped with a four-part socket system for optimal light diffusion, secured beneath a conical brass hub and flanked by switches integrated into the base plate.

Bertil Brisborg (1903–1990) was a Swedish architect and designer who created lighting and furnishings primarily for Nordiska Kompaniet, one of Sweden’s most prestigious department stores and furniture producers. His designs often combined modernist clarity with traditional Swedish materials and craftsmanship. Brisborg was responsible for several notable lighting designs that balanced functionalist principles with decorative refinement, making his works sought after among collectors and enthusiasts of Scandinavian lighting.

Nordiska Kompaniet (NK), founded in Stockholm in 1902, quickly established itself as a leading institution for luxury retail and design innovation. Through its interior design studio and production workshops, NK collaborated with architects and designers such as Axel Einar Hjorth, David Rosen, and Brisborg to produce high-quality furniture and lighting tailored to both domestic and international markets.

The lamp measures 35 cm in diameter and 61.5 cm in height, equivalent to approximately 13.8 inches wide and 24.2 inches high.
