Bertil Fridhagen easy chair
This rare easy chair was designed by Bertil Fridhagen and produced by AB Bodafors in Sweden during the 1950s. It reflects mid-century Scandinavian design principles through its blend of traditional craftsmanship and organic material choices. The frame is made from dark-stained beech, lending a warm and rich foundation, while the seat and backrest are crafted from finely handwoven rattan. The natural tone of the rattan contrasts with the darker wood, emphasizing the chair’s lightweight and sculptural presence.
The chair’s form is characterized by a low, wide seat and a curved, bowl-like backrest that wraps around the sitter, seamlessly flowing into rounded armrests. This rattan shell is supported by a minimal wooden frame with four tapered legs connected by horizontal stretchers for stability. The tension and precision of the handwoven rattan closely follow the contours of the form, showcasing the skilled artisan craftsmanship typical of Bodafors’ work during this period.

It is in very good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age, intact and well-preserved rattan, and wood showing minimal surface marks while retaining its original finish and form.
