Information

Pair of easy chairs model Kuba designed by Bertil Fridhagen and produced by Bröderna Andersson in Sweden during the 1960s. The frames are crafted in solid teak, characterized by finely sculpted armrests and gently tapered legs that express the refined woodworking typical of Scandinavian mid-century design. The original black leather upholstery remains intact, with visible creases and a natural surface patina that enhance the vintage authenticity of the pair.

The construction reveals a deep understanding of ergonomic form and proportion, with an open slatted backrest that provides both structure and visual lightness. The teak displays a rich, warm hue and a tight grain pattern, contrasting elegantly with the smooth black leather cushions. The overall composition is both architectural and organic, reflecting Fridhagen’s sensitivity to materials and his mastery of understated detail.

Bertil Fridhagen was among the leading Swedish furniture designers of his time, known for his collaborations with Bröderna Andersson and his pursuit of functional beauty through precision joinery and balanced geometry. The Kuba model embodies his design philosophy—combining craftsmanship, comfort, and sculptural clarity within a restrained modernist framework.

This pair remains in very good original condition, with minor signs of age and use consistent with careful preservation. Dimensions: width 68.5 cm (27 inches), depth 77 cm (30.3 inches), height 72 cm (28.3 inches), seat height 39 cm (15.4 inches).
