Bo Notini floor lamp
This very rare floor lamp, model no. G4, was designed by Bo Notini and produced by Glössner & Co in Sweden during the 1940s. The lamp features a brass construction with a circular base supporting a slender column that rises to a sculptural double glass shade. The outer frosted glass shade is intricately etched with a classical-inspired scene depicting a fisherman casting a net, birds in flight, and aquatic motifs. The scalloped edge of the shade enhances its organic and decorative qualities.
When illuminated, the engraved patterns create a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, enriching the depth and artistry of the design. This detailed craftsmanship is characteristic of Notini’s refined approach to lighting, combining functional illumination with expressive etched glasswork.
Bo Notini was a prominent Swedish designer known for his decorative lighting creations. His collaboration with Glössner & Co resulted in pieces celebrated for their artistic merit and high-quality materials, such as brass and glass, ensuring both longevity and elegance.
The lamp measures 175.5 cm in height (69.1 inches) with a shade diameter of 35 cm (13.8 inches). It remains in well-preserved vintage condition, showing minor wear on the brass consistent with its age. The glass shades retain their clarity and detailed etching, maintaining the integrity of this rare example of Scandinavian mid-century lighting design.
