Boréns floor lamp
Floor lamp model G7288 attributed to Svend Aage Holm Sørensen and produced by Boréns in Sweden. The lamp is constructed in black lacquered metal and brass with an asymmetrical reflector head and an offset light source. The main structure consists of a circular black metal base from which two slender, black lacquered tubular uprights rise; one continues into a large, shallow, oval reflector shade lacquered white on the underside, while the other carries a brass, cup-shaped shade pierced with a fine row of perforations along the upper edge and around the lower tip. Two additional thin brass rods form a crossing accent between the uprights, emphasising the verticality and giving the base a graphic, sculptural appearance.
The color scheme combines matte or semi-matte black lacquer with polished brass and a white inner reflector. The forms are reduced and elongated: the tall rods, circular base and oval disc are contrasted with the conical brass shade, resulting in a dynamic yet balanced composition. When lit, the main light is reflected upwards and diffused by the white disc, while small points of light appear through the perforations in the brass shade, producing a characteristic mid-century decorative effect on the surrounding surfaces.
Svend Aage Holm Sørensen was a Danish lighting designer known for sculptural, often experimental metalwork, active primarily from the 1950s onwards. Many of his designs explore graphic silhouettes and refined use of perforated metal, qualities that are clearly echoed in this model, hence the attribution. Boréns, based in Sweden, was an important Nordic lighting manufacturer of the mid-20th century, producing high-quality luminaires for domestic and public interiors, frequently collaborating with leading designers of the period and focusing on technically precise yet visually light constructions.
The lamp is in excellent condition, with minimal signs of age and use to the lacquered and brass surfaces. The brass elements show a light, even patina typical for the material, while the lacquered parts and reflector are clean with only small, superficial marks.
Dimensions are approximately 157 cm in height and 47 cm in diameter at the shade, corresponding to about 61.8 inches high and 18.5 inches in diameter.
