Information

Dining table model Öresund was designed by Børge Mogensen in 1959 and produced by Karl Andersson & Söner in Sweden. This rare extendable table is crafted from oak and features brass detailing at the leg joints, exemplifying the understated elegance and functional clarity typical of Scandinavian modern design. The tabletop displays a warm golden tone, showcasing both straight and cathedral oak grain patterns, finished with a light matte surface that highlights the wood’s natural texture.

The table’s shape is elliptical when closed and transforms into an elongated oval when fully extended. It rests on cylindrical legs and includes subtle structural supports beneath the apron, ensuring stability without detracting from the clean lines of the design. The table extends from 170 cm (approximately 66.9 inches) to 410 cm (about 161.4 inches) in width, maintaining a consistent depth of 130 cm (51.2 inches) and a height of 72 cm (28.3 inches). Its extension mechanism involves four leaves and a central support leg that folds away when the table is fully opened.

Børge Mogensen was a prominent figure in Danish modern design, celebrated for his commitment to functionalism, honest materials, and craftsmanship that endures over time. While he is often associated with Fredericia and FDB Møbler, his collaboration with Karl Andersson & Söner reflects a broader Scandinavian effort during the late 1950s to create furniture that balanced simplicity with utility. Karl Andersson & Söner, established in 1898, is renowned for producing finely crafted wood furniture in partnership with leading Nordic designers.

This particular table is in good vintage condition, showing minor signs of use that align with its age. It has undergone restoration to maintain both its structural integrity and aesthetic coherence while preserving the authenticity of the original design.
