Information

This rare sofa and daybed, model 192, was designed by Børge Mogensen in the 1950s and produced by Fredericia Stolefabrik in Denmark. Mogensen’s work is characterized by structural honesty, functional clarity, and the use of high-quality natural materials, all of which are evident in this piece. The 192 model demonstrates his approach to modular living furniture—an elegant balance of simplicity and purpose that marked the golden age of Danish modern design.

The frame is constructed from solid oak with precise joinery and an exposed slatted back, creating a strong horizontal structure that highlights the material’s grain and craftsmanship. Brass fittings secure the adjustable backrest, allowing the sofa to convert easily into a daybed. This functional element is both mechanical and aesthetic, reflecting Mogensen’s principle that utility should enhance, not conceal, the beauty of form. The seat and back cushions are newly upholstered in deep blue fabric, adding color contrast against the warm natural tone of the oak. The cushions feature hand-tufted detailing, emphasizing Mogensen’s focus on tactile quality and proportion.

The sofa remains in excellent vintage condition, with minimal wear to the wooden frame and new upholstery maintaining the original character. The overall design conveys stability and calmness, qualities central to Mogensen’s vision for modern domestic interiors.

Dimensions: 195 cm wide, 100 cm deep, 67 cm high, with a seat height of 30 cm (76.8 x 39.4 x 26.4 in, seat height 11.8 in).
