Coffee table
This rare coffee or side table, produced in Sweden during the 1940s, features a harmonious combination of solid walnut and a thick, original textured glass top. The table has a circular shape, measuring 72 centimeters in diameter (28.3 inches) and standing 48.5 centimeters high (19.1 inches). The glass top is translucent and distinguished by a frosted, pebbled texture across its surface, with a subtle green tint visible along the edges due to the thickness of the glass.
The glass rests on a robust four-legged walnut frame, reinforced with a cross-braced support that ensures stability while maintaining a visually light and open appearance. The tapered legs reflect mid-century Scandinavian modern design principles, emphasizing clean lines, organic materials, and functional elegance. The walnut wood’s rich tone and grain provide warmth and depth to the overall composition.
The table is preserved in good vintage condition, showing minor signs of wear consistent with its age, including a small nick on the glass edge. Though the designer is unknown, the table’s craftsmanship, material quality, and structural design align closely with the functionalist ideals that define mid-century Scandinavian furniture. This piece stands as an example of the period’s refined attention to materiality and balanced design.
