Ewald Dahlskog floor vase
This glazed ceramic floor vase was designed by Ewald Dahlskog and produced by Bobergs Fajansfabrik in Sweden during the 1930s. The vase presents a vertically elongated ovoid form that gently tapers toward both the neck and the base, creating a balanced and symmetrical silhouette. Ribbed detailing is applied near the top and bottom edges, subtly emphasizing the vase’s proportion and form. The surface is coated in a deep oxblood red glaze, notable for its glossy finish and subtle tonal variations that highlight the vase’s curved contours.
Crafted from faience, a type of tin-glazed earthenware common to Bobergs Fajansfabrik’s production in this era, the vase carries the impressed factory mark “BOBERG SWEDEN” on its underside, accompanied by hand-applied production numbers. These marks authenticate the piece and provide insight into its manufacturing. Ewald Dahlskog (1894–1950) was a Swedish designer and artist whose oeuvre spanned ceramics, glass, and graphic design. His ceramic creations are characterized by a refined simplicity of form paired with bold surface treatments, reflecting the influence of Art Deco through clean lines and rich, monochromatic glazes as exemplified by this vase.
The condition of the vase is very good overall. The glaze shows minor signs of wear consistent with age and use but is free from any structural damage such as cracks or chips. The dimensions measure 20 centimeters in diameter and 48.5 centimeters in height (7.9 by 19.1 inches).
