Floor lamp
This is a rare mid-century floor lamp in the style of Danish designer Verner Panton, produced in Germany, most likely during the 1960s or early 1970s. The lamp is constructed from brass and features a minimal, sculptural structure with a distinct wireframe base, combined with its original cylindrical fabric lampshade and a plexiglass diffuser.
The lamp’s structural frame consists of multiple slender brass rods that converge at the neck and flare outwards at the base, forming a wide, circular footprint. This trumpet-like geometry is both ornamental and functional, allowing the lamp to stand securely while visually reducing its perceived mass. The brass rods exhibit a warm, golden tone with a natural aged patina. The surface has retained a uniform sheen and shows minor signs of oxidation, consistent with vintage brass.
The central column is vertically ribbed and leads upward to a triple pull-chain mechanism located just beneath the socket assembly. This provides independent control over multiple light sources. The pull chains end in polished brass spheres, echoing the materiality of the main structure and adding a tactile design element.
The lampshade is a drum form, covered in a light beige woven fabric, retaining its original construction. The inner top of the shade is closed with a round plexiglass diffuser, which helps soften and evenly distribute light. There are visible small stains on the fabric surface, consistent with age and material fragility, but the overall appearance remains presentable and well-preserved.
The overall design bears strong resemblance to Verner Panton’s approach to modern lighting, where geometry and transparency meet expressive form. Although unmarked, the lamp reflects the influence of Panton’s sculptural wire-frame aesthetics and interest in rethinking functional lighting with architectural impact.
The lamp measures 154 cm in height and 60 cm in diameter, equivalent to approximately 60.6 inches tall and 23.6 inches across. Despite minor shade wear, the lamp is in good vintage condition and remains fully functional.
