Floor lamp
This rare floor lamp was produced by Itsu in Finland during the 1950s. The lamp is constructed with a brass frame, leather-wrapped detailing, and newly fitted conical lampshades. The base is made of black-lacquered metal, providing weight and stability, while the dual upright brass stems are connected in a U-formed bend. Each stem features leather wrapping, both functional as a grip and decorative in its warm tonal contrast to the polished brass.
The lamp is fitted with two adjustable light sources mounted on brass gooseneck arms, allowing directional illumination. The newly made fabric shades preserve the original proportions and design intent, diffusing light evenly with a subtle woven texture. The combination of brass, leather, and textile reflects the Nordic modernist aesthetic of the postwar years, where natural materials and craftsmanship were emphasized alongside functional innovation.
Itsu, a Finnish lighting producer active in the mid-20th century, was known for its collaborations with prominent designers and its commitment to high-quality fabrication. Their work helped shape the Finnish modern lighting movement, characterized by clarity of form and a balance between elegance and utility.
The piece is in excellent condition, with the brass surface showing a well-preserved patina and the leather wrapping remaining intact. The new lampshades are in pristine state, ensuring both functionality and faithful continuity with the original design.
