This very rare pair of high-back easy chairs is a seldom-seen variant of model FH 1517, produced by Fritz Hansen in Denmark during the 1930s. The design is distinguished by its sculptural, enveloping silhouette, featuring an organically curved wing back that flows seamlessly into gently sloping armrests. The restrained geometry is softened by rounded transitions and carefully proportioned volumes, resulting in an elegant balance between comfort and architectural form. The chairs are upholstered in a finely woven grey linen fabric accented with black leather piping, while the solid oak block feet provide a subtle contrast in both color and material.

Founded in Copenhagen in 1872 by cabinetmaker Fritz Hansen, Fritz Hansen developed into one of Denmark’s most influential furniture manufacturers, renowned for combining traditional cabinetmaking techniques with progressive design. During the 1930s the company collaborated with leading architects and designers to produce furniture that bridged the transition from Scandinavian Classicism toward Danish Modernism. This pair has recently been professionally reupholstered in a high-quality grey linen fabric with black leather edging that accentuates the chairs’ sculptural contours. The upholstery complements the original design while maintaining a restrained and timeless appearance appropriate to the period. The backrests feature original-style button tufting, and the chairs retain their solid oak legs with a warm natural finish that contrasts elegantly with the neutral textile. The combination of soft upholstery and exposed timber creates a refined material palette characteristic of Scandinavian furniture from the 1930s.

The chairs remain in good vintage condition. The recent upholstery is clean and well executed, while the oak legs display minor signs of age and use consistent with careful handling over time.
