Information

This very rare floor lamp, model G-110, was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by his own firm, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB, in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1950s. The lamp features a round, tiered shade made from multiple layers of pleated raw silk fringe in a soft, warm ivory tone, suspended from a circular brass frame. The layers of silk fringe diffuse the light evenly, casting a soft, atmospheric glow when illuminated, a hallmark of Jakobsson’s focus on creating ambient, indirect lighting.

The supporting structure is composed of polished brass, including the round base and the slender stem, which emphasizes the verticality of the lamp’s silhouette. The brass has developed a patina with signs of age, consistent with a mid-century piece, including surface marks and oxidation, particularly around the socket housing and base. This adds a sense of authenticity and character to the lamp.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was a renowned Swedish interior and furniture designer known for his poetic approach to lighting design. After studying architecture and working for Carl Malmsten and Werner West, Jakobsson founded his own company in 1951. His designs are closely associated with the Scandinavian modern movement and are celebrated for their warmth, softness, and atmospheric qualities. Jakobsson’s fringe lamps, which became iconic during the 1950s and 60s, offered a tactile alternative to the more rigid modernist styles of the period.

Produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB, an influential lighting manufacturer in Markaryd, the company played a significant role in defining post-war Swedish lighting design. The G-110 model is particularly scarce and collectible due to its unique combination of a floor-standing form and a fringe shade, a feature typically seen in pendant lights.

This lamp embodies the simplicity, organic forms, and high craftsmanship that defined mid-century Scandinavian design. The condition is good, with visible signs of wear on the brass components, but the original silk shade remains intact and well-preserved.

The dimensions of the lamp are 140 cm in height (approximately 55.1 inches) and 39 cm in diameter (approximately 15.4 inches).
