Information

This side table was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by his company, Hans-Agne Jakobsson Åhus AB, in Markaryd, Sweden during the 1950s. Though best known for his groundbreaking Scandinavian lighting designs, Jakobsson also engaged in crafting decorative and functional interior furniture, as exemplified by this piece.

The tabletop is composed of a black laminate surface featuring a mid-century linear pattern in off-white. The design abstractly references electronic circuit motifs, including shapes reminiscent of resistors, capacitors, and radiating lines, echoing the 1950s fascination with technology and modernist graphic design. This patterned surface is bordered by solid teak with finely mitered corners, presenting a warm reddish-brown tone that contrasts strikingly with the dark laminate inset.

The table is supported by four slender, white-lacquered steel rod legs that curve gracefully at the top to meet the underside of the teak frame. The legs feature a doubled construction near the top and gently taper toward the floor, creating a delicate and refined silhouette. The lacquer finish has aged to a warm, creamy patina consistent with vintage metal surfaces.

Overall, the table is in good vintage condition, showing wear consistent with age. The laminate top has minor surface scuffs and a small area where the decorative layer has worn. The teak frame exhibits minor dents and edge wear, while the lacquered steel legs display natural patina and scattered marks typical of age.

This table represents a refined example of mid-century Swedish furniture, combining practical design with playful, graphic surface exploration. The manufacturer’s label on the underside authenticates the piece as an original production by Hans-Agne Jakobsson Åhus AB from Markaryd.

The table measures 36.5 cm in width, 31.5 cm in depth, and 41 cm in height, approximately 14.4 inches wide, 12.4 inches deep, and 16.1 inches high.
